I’m Melissa. I write. I take pictures. I teach writing. I read a lot. I take classes. I have an American Bulldog named Monk’s Sweet Hallucination. I call her  Lucy.

I named this site deucers, cause I met most of my friends at the deuce bar on Miami Beach, where I worked for 14 years. Those were some amazing times. More amazing times to come.

We, deucers, have all lived and, ahem, grown up, on Miami Beach and we’ve spent many hours drinking and visiting at the Deuce. Although some of us have stopped spending all our spare moments on 14th street, we have created such strong bonds whiling away our mornings, afternoons, and late nights at the Deuce, that we refer to one another as a deucers. We use the term as one of respect for someone who:

1) can hold interesting conversations with a wide variety of people

2)  won’t hesitate to grab a cocktail on the fly

3) prefers the unusual and unexpected
