Thomas, Alex and I headed over to the Miami Beach Marina this morning to board the Won Reward from the Reward Fishing Fleet:

Hot and sunny, perfect weather for bananafishing:

Alex caught the first fish and the biggest fish- a king fish:

Three hours later, Sherman (not the toilet paper, the tank) expertly fileted the fish:

We took the filets to Monty’s and they grilled them up for the freshest lunch:

Another day in paradise.

Busy week out and about. My old friend, Jim, from Akron, is in town for the boat show; I showed him a few of my favorite places around town.

First we went to the new Books & Books store on Lincoln Road to hear Carol Sue Gershman read:

We celebrated Sigi’s birthday by taking him fishing on the Reward Won:

We caught some Mahi and had it grilled at Monty’s and ate it for lunch. Then we took a field-trip off the beach to Jimbo’s on Virginia Key. Ahhh Jimbo’s. Bocce Jim on the piste, Mangrove Jim, and Jim is on the bus:

Great time hanging out and catching up.

Too bad our friend, SPN, wasn’t there to keep an eye on us.

I had some relatives in town last week, and we went deep sea fishing on the Reward II. It was a fabulous day, the ocean was every shade of blue, from turquoise to deep navy. We saw dolphins and sting rays. We didn’t catch any fish this time, but it made me wonder why it’s been so long since I’d been out on the Reward. We used to go often years ago, but I don’t think I’ve been in the last five years.  I’ll definitely go out soon – anyone want to go? Next week? It was only 40 bucks: they supply the rods & reels, and bait the hooks. The crew is helpful without being overly solicitous. You can bring your own drinks on board or buy them once you’re on. Captain Chris entertained us with a few good stories…ask him about the sailfish and the Mako shark, and mate Andrew skillfully disentangled our lines. Great views of Miami Beach.
